Nagoya Institute of Technology was established in May 1949 as a national university under the program of educational reform after the Second World War, merging the Nagoya College of Technology and the Aichi Prefectural College of Technology. The main academic buildings are located on the Gokiso Campus, which neighbors famous Tsuruma Park, in the center of Nagoya City. It is very conveniently located in terms of public transportation. The institute aims to cultivate persons who contribute to world peace and welfare through teaching and studying within industry, while promoting the industrial and cultural development of Japan.

NIT provides "International Graduate Programs" for studying advanced theories and technologies with English as the primal language of instruction. The programs include the Master's Degree Program and the Doctoral Degree Program in the following departments: Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Industrial Management Engineering, Department of Frontier Materials, Department of Scientific and Engineering Simulation.
Service for International Students
There is a residence for international students called "NIT International House". The residence consists of 54 single rooms, 6 couple rooms and 2 family rooms and we provide these rooms at reasonable rates (5,900yen a month for a single room). New international students are matched with tutors who support the students with life on and off campus.

NIT has launched a new program,"International Graduate Program of Automobile Engineering,"with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of Education. The program is designed for Asian students who want to develop a career in the Japanese automobile industry.
