'' THREE BASIC PRINCIPLES '' The University, as a center for the advancement in science and culture, aims (a) to foster individuals qualified in the knowledge and techniques of specialized fields, (b) to expand the frontiers of science and technology through research, and (c) to contribute to the culture and industry of Japan and particularly for Fukui Prefecture. To achieve these aims, the University operates according to the following three priciples. 1) To be an attractive university at the cutting edge of modern global society; We offer advanced education and research in line with the rapid developments occurring in the fields of science and technology to train students to be up-to-date with the latest information within their specific fields of study. 2) To be a distinctive university engaging in unique education and research; We place great importance on communication between students and academic staff by maintaining small class sizes. We promote education, research, and academic exchange around the Sea of Japan region. 3) To be an open university with close links to the local community; We offer a variety of free classes every semester in the Centers for Academic Exchange located on the Fukui and Obama Campuses. These courses are taught by faculty members, and their research findings are available to the local community. The newly-established Research Institute for Regional Economics is fully committed to providing services to develop the local economy.

Service for International Students
Every exchange student can receive assistance of a Japanese student (as a semi-tutor), according to the foreigner's requiest. The assistance covers not only registration for study course, explanation about utilization of facilities and equipments but also daily life in Japan. As a basic rule, semi-tutors assist twice a week, two hours at one time.
Comments & Latest Information
1) Academic Exchange in the Pacific Region: The University has academic exchange agreements with the following universities; Zhejiang Institute of Finance and Economics (China), Chonnam National University (Korea), Kangnung National University (Korea), Jilin University (China),National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology(Taiwan),and National Ilan University(Taiwan). 2) Students from Abroad: At present, forty-eight foreign students are studying at the University. Six of these students are from Zhejiang Province in China. Fukui Prefecture has a mutual agreement with Zhejiang Province to promote academic cooperation and exchange.
