Profile
The Otaru University of Commerce was reorganized as auniversity in May, 1949 by the national goverment. It was originally established as the Otaru Higher Commercial School in March, 1910 and has reached the present stage after many changes. The University traces a long history for more than ninety years since its foundation, during which it has contributed not only to the industrial circles but also to the advancement of the arts and sciences through its excellent teaching and reseach in these fields.

YOUC program (one year exchange program)
Service for International Students
Some lectures and seminars in economics and commerce are conducted in English in order to facilitate student exchange with universities abroad. For international students who wish to acquire higher university level Japanese language proficiency, Language Center provides Japanese language courses. Also the International Center provides academic guidance, financial support, housing information and individual counseling on their requests. International lounge is open to international students, Japanese students and Otaru citizens to provide a place for communication. International lounge also offeres information on the international activities organized by the university and other international associations in the area and across Japan.

YOUC program, one year program, is designed for economics and business students in their junior year when the program commences. All lectures are conducted in English and no prior knowledge of Japanese is required.
