Profile
Saitama University, which is the only national university in the Saitama Prefecture, was founded in 1949 when the Japanese educational system was reformed. It started with two faculties; the Faculty of Literature and Science and the Faculty of Education, and has since developed into a general university with five faculties and four graduate schools, after additions and consolidations of some faculties. The campus is located in Saitama City, the capital of Saitama Prefecture, which is easily accessible: about an hour by train from the Tokyo metropolitan area. The University currently has exchange agreements with several universities abroad to implement our commitment to keep our doors open for the international community. The members of the University community, which include more than 530 international students from 26 countries and areas, are proud of their active academic and student exchages.
