Colleges of Technology

Colleges of technology (“Kosen” for short) are colleges offering comprehensive 5-year education programs (5 and a half year for mercantile marine) to lower secondary school leavers and are recognized as higher educational institutions similar to universities. In general, Kosen accepts international students from the third year onwards.

Transfer into college of technology
① | Students who have completed or are expected to complete at least 11 years of school curriculum in foreign countries |

② | Students who have passed or are expected to pass the academic qualification exam equivalent to the completion of at least 11 years of school education overseas |
③ | Students who have completed or are expected to complete their study at international schools in Japan recognized as equivalent to senior high schools overseas |
④ | Students who possess or are expected to possess the International Baccalaureate, the German Abitur and the French Baccalaureate |
⑤ | Students who have completed or are expected to complete the 11 years of school curriculum at international schools accredited by an international body (WASC / CIS / ACSI) |
⑥ | Students recognized as having academic abilities equivalent to upper secondary school graduates |
※ | For ①~③, those who completed only 11 years of school education need to complete the university preparatory courses which are designated by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology - Japan or courses at training facilities. |
Documents for submission
The Institute of National Colleges of Technology (Kosen) conducts the common selection exam for all the colleges of technology nationwide. The application form has been standardized.

Entrance exam
The Institute of National Colleges of Technology determines the results by overall evaluation of the following items (Pass/fail is determined in accordance with the criteria set by each college of technology)
